“MOTIVATING OUR PEOPLE INTO ACTION FOR A STRONGER MOVEMENT’

Hon. Andrew Holness (L) and PAM’s Political Leader Mr. Lindsay Grant
PAM's Public Relations Office Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (PAM’s Public Relations) - On Sunday March 18th former prime minister of Jamaica Hon. Andrew Holness will address the 47th annual convention of the Peoples Action Movement which will be held at PAM Headquarters beginning at 1pm.

Hon. Andrew Holness is a graduate of the University of the West Indies where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies and a Master of Science in Development Studies.

He succeeded Bruce Golding as both leader of the Jamaica Labour Party and prime minister on 23 October 2011, making him the ninth person to hold the office of Prime Minister of Jamaica.

The theme for the convention is “MOTIVATING OUR PEOPLE INTO ACTION FOR A STRONGER MOVEMENT”; signaling the party’s thrust to rally its troops and strengthen its resolve to bring enlightened government to the Federation.

In preparation for the Convention two public meetings were held this week highlighting the issues that affect the quality of life in the Federation and outlining proposals for a new direction.

The issues will engage the Convention on Sunday as presentations are to be made by Hon. Eugene Hamilton, Hon. Shawn Richards and Political Leader Lindsay Grant that are scheduled to be broadcast live; the address by the guest speaker Hon. Andrew Holiness will also be broadcast live, giving nationals abroad an opportunity to hear the messages of hope and opportunity.

PAM was formed in 1965 by William V. Herbert PHD. The party occupied premises on Church Street until the Labour Government acquired the said property in an effort to stifle the vision and brilliance of the leadership of PAM.

Having lost access to the Church Street property, the leadership embarked on a campaign to acquire other property in Basseterre to house the activities of the party and by hard work and strong support from women and men alike the funds were raised and the Lockhart Street property was purchased.

That property on Lockhart Street has been the home of PAM for over four decades and it is at that home where the 47th convention will be held on Sunday.

While there will be addresses broadcast on Sunday, the convention is expected to also engage in ratifying outcomes from the annual Caucus that was held on Sunday 4th March when delegations from each constituency conducted the business sessions of the organization, including nominations and elections of officers for the new term.

The designated officers for the new term are Mr. Selwyn Liburd – Chairman; Dr. Charles Warner and Lyr. Jonel Powell – Deputy Chairs; Mr. Valentine Lindsay – Treasurer; Mr. Antonio Nias – Public Relations Officer; Mrs. Shirley Julius – General Secretary; and Ms. Rhyllis Percival –Assistant General Secretary.

Deputy Political Leaders Hon. Shawn Richards and Hon. Eugene Hamilton have both been returned to join Mr. Lindsay Grant as Political Leader.
