Private Sector sponsors Culturama 2008

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – CABLE AND WIRELESS [C&W] ushered in the festive mood by donating $150 000 towards the 2008 Culturama at a press conference held today at the Red Cross Building in Nevis.
The Vice President C&W Nevis Operations, Jerome Rawlins, handed over the cheque to the Minister of Culture and Social Development, the Hon. Hensley Daniel.
Minister Daniel thanked the telecommunications giant for the generous donation and said the money would be put into proper use to ensure the festival was well-organised. He said the Culturama Secretariat had made a profit last year and it was optimistic that additional sponsors would enlist to support the event.

Culturama Coordinator Antonio Liburd said the private sector had given generously towards the ongoing renovation of the Cultural Complex.
The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) donated $365 000 towards the annual cultural event. Other sponsors that have enlisted to support the festival and were represented at the press conference included Caribbean Cable TV, Nevis; Bank of Nevis; Carib Breweries; and S.L Horsford.

It was revealed that the Bank of Nevis will be sponsoring the Talented Teen Show, while Carib Breweries and S.L Horsford will be sponsors of the Miss Culture Pageant.
Rawlins said C&W was committed to invest in Nevis’ cultural development and preservation as well as in youths who participate in the festival. He said the company has been greatly impressed over the years by youths who are involved in the masquerades and school children who participate in troupes.
He said C&W had invested in educational programmes and cited free Internet for all primary schools and a scholarship programme for 12 high school students. Rawlins added that C&W was pleased to be a platinum sponsor as Culturama celebrates its 35th anniversary.
