Collaborates with Regional Players to Introduce New Activities for Students

KINGSTON Jamaica, March 21st, 2012  --  Scotiabank Kiddy Cricketers are looking forward to a fantastic season of cricket as they complete their preparation plans and head into the 2012 Digicel Series full throttle. The season  which officially began on March 16 at Arnos Vale in St Vincent will run through to July  and feature several new initiatives for the students, all geared toward creating a better playing experience for them.

For the 2012 series; the students will be officially decked out in newly redesigned Kiddy Cricket uniforms and will have the distinction of being guest “coached” during their on field kills display presentations for the first time by acclaimed national cricketers.

The students will also be welcoming a brand new mascot, “Chirpy” to their team, who will be joining them for their on-field display in the cricket stadia as well as making appearances at Kiddy Cricket Schools regionally.

Joining Chirpy for the school tours are several pro-cricketers & cricket legends who will be visiting with the children to deliver motivational pep talks and conducting promotional activities gearing at building their excitement as they look forward to the cricket matches in their location.

As part of their preparatory activities for the news season, Kiddy Cricketers have been engaged in training sessions at the various venues in each country days ahead of their actual skills display sessions.

During the training sessions, the students go through their simulated drill activities with their national coaches and past national players who guide and motivate them ahead of their big day on the field when they display their rudimentary cricketing skills of batting, bowling, fielding and catching.

The first set of 80 Kiddy Cricketers from eight primary schools in St Vincent had a great time of the field in Arnos Vale and enjoyed all the preparatory activities leading up to the event.

There are over 560 students in seven other Caribbean islands who are also awaiting their chance to shine during the Australia and New Zealand tour. Throughout the series, a new set of 80 students from each country will get the opportunity to display the skills they have been learning all year with their coaches in school.

This experience is the climax of their year in the programme and has been a life changing opportunity for many who used the occasion to decide on starting a career in the game.

In collaboration with the West Indies Cricket Board, Scotiabank is also giving the Kiddy Cricketers as opportunity to serve as ball boys for the 2nd time around in 2012.  As Kiddy Cricket Ball Boys, the students are able to participate in the actual games as they field balls which have been sent outside the boundary by the professional players.

The young players will also continue to get ‘one-on-one’ lens time in 2012 with cricket legends through their popular Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Minute feature. Last year, the feature was introduced for the first time and gave the students a chance to interview renowned legends like Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose. These interviews were recorded and later played in the cricket venues for public viewing.

Scotiabank has been the exclusive sponsor of Kiddy Cricket and the Official Bank of West Indies for the past 13 years and has been providing students with increased opportunities to play the game and additional specialized training from accredited technical coaching staff.
