Basseterre; St. Kitts - At the Public Meeting held by the People’s Action Movement (PAM) this past Sunday June 8, 2008, the need for reliable social services topped the list of major concerns for the residents of Boyds Village.
PAM guest speaker Mr. Bernard Welch linked this to the very need to build our communities by empowering the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. Mr. Welch explained that instead, the Labour government has confused building our communities with building houses.
On the issues, Mr. Welch continued that food security holds priority for the high food prices facing the people of St. Kitts and Nevis- where local agriculture is supported – instead of placing blame on the shopkeepers as directed by the Labour government.
PAM Political Leader Mr. Lindsay Grant reiterated that it is the job of a responsible government not to wait until high food prices become a problem for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. In fact, Mr. Grant confirmed that food security was already detailed in the PAM 2004 Economic Plan by such a vision for Good Governance.
On the issue of health, Political Leader Grant made the commitment for PAM to establish a universal health scheme, which would ensure overseas access to medical treatment for those who cannot afford it. In conclusion, Mr. Grant asked the people of Boyds to support PAM to ensure proper representation after the next General Election.
