BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 21st, 2012 (CUOPM) – Minister of Health, the Hon. Marcella Liburd has expressed thanks to the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for partnering with the Taiwan-ICDF Alumni Society and co-sponsored by the Embassy of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) and St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Health.
Speaking at a brief “Share Love With You” appreciation ceremony with glaucoma patients at the Ophthalmic Unit waiting room of the J.N.F. General Hospital, with some 50 people attending, among them were about 20 visually impaired patients, the Minister of Health, thanked the Embassy for helping sponsor such an event.
Minister Liburd used the opportunity to encourage the patients to be focused. “You may lose your sight, but you cannot afford to lose your vision,” she said.
Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China, His Excellency Miguel Tsao expressed his appreciation for what it is like to be visually impaired and shared with those present on the occasion a touching song “You are my eyes” written and performed by a blind Taiwanese singer.
Ambassador Tsao also encouraged the patients to meet, with hope and grace, the challenges life may bring.
Both Mr. Charles Williams and Mrs. Sonia Daly, President and Vice President of the Taiwan-ICDF Alumni Society, in their remarks, shared their thoughts on the meaning of charity work and encouraged their fellow Society members to continue participating in such a meaningful cause.
The event was the third of its kind over the past 18 months and was organised by Taiwan-ICDF Alumni Society and co-sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Health.
The first such appreciation ceremony was held in December 2010 with single parents, the second in December 2011 with mentally challenged patients at Ade’s Place.
