Enis Adams students to play in style on new playground set

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, March 21st, 2012   – Students of the Enis Adams Primary School can now romp and play in style as the Rotary Club of Road Town in partnership with the Rotary Club of San Juan presented and dedicated a fully assembled playground set to the school.

     

    President of the Rotary Club of Road Town, Mrs. Yvonne Crabbe, chaired the ceremony and in her remarks revealed that the project was in the making for over a year. The cost for bring the playground to the Virgin Islands was for $24,761 in addition to on-island installation costs and other fees. She admonished the Enis Adams students to take great care of the playground.

     

    Carlos Matos, the International Service Director for the Rotary Club of San Juan and a contact for the acquisition of the playground, flew in from Puerto Rico to be present at the dedication.

     

    He said he was happy to be involved in this venture as “It was truly a wonderful example of what Rotary is all about and how the small contributions by individual clubs can be leveraged into doing something good."

     

    Minister for Education and Culture Honorable Myron V. Walwyn was pleased to see the Rotary Club working together with the community on this project. He said, “It is a good thing when we can see the community come together to do things like this. I am very pleased about it and we need to establish these types of partnerships where we can see these things happen.”

     

    The Minister continued, “I know it is going to be a challenging year for the government financially. We know what is happening globally and it is good when we can rely on organizations such as Rotary to help us.”

    The Minister, like previous speakers, urged students to take very good care of the equipment and congratulated the Rotary Club for all they continue to do for the school. He then acknowledged the need to recognize all business that continue to contribute to the community, at times, without recognition.

     

    Second district representative Honourable J. Alvin Christopher delivered remarks and immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Road Town Mr. Charles Benjamin presented a thorough overview of the project and revealed the work history with the Rotary Club of San Juan in his remarks.

     

    Principal of the Enis Adams Primary School Mrs. Carlene Simmonds-Parsons said that the Rotary Club pays so much attention to the school that the students are “comfortable” and feel like “family” when Rotary comes around.
    She assured all present that the playground will be cared for as the Early Acters have a programme in place where students will pay a fine if they do not keep the surroundings clean.

     

    The play ground was installed by Mr. Stuart Donovan of Smart Kids. LIME and Colonial Insurance, the other adoptive parents of the Enis Adams Primary School were in attendance at Tuesday’s ceremony.

     

    The Rotary Club’s presentation is in keeping with their commitment to the Adopt-a-School programme, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education and Culture to facilitate partnerships between the business community and the schools to provide an enriched, enhanced learning experience.
