BIRD ROCK St. Kitts, March 23rd, 2012 – The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) celebrates World Meteorological Day (March 23) with the Meteorological community worldwide under the theme, “Powering our future with weather, climate and water.”
The Authority pauses to recognize the professional and excellent services the Meteorological officers of SCASPA namely, Mr. Rajdaye Wynter, Mr. Elmo Burke, Mr. Delver Martin, Ms. Vincere Benjamin, Mr. Sean Buchanan, Mr. Denel Dixon and Ms. Vincia Browne, have provided to the field of Meteorology in the Federation.
For 41 years, the Meteorological department of SCASPA has accurately communicated forecasts on day-to-day weather, severe weather, climatic trends, environmental hazards and natural disasters to the community. The department reports weather observations to aviation personnel, compiles climatogical data and has invested in modern equipment to best serve the community.
According to Manager of the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, Mr. Elsworth Warner, the department has improved its services over the years and is committed to continuing its trend in moving higher.
“The department has developed with time, when we first started in 1971 the office was set up for the purpose of providing Aeronautical Meteorological Information directly to aircraft. We now provide information to the general public.
We recognize that we are a part of a global framework for climate services, with this in mind, we are investing in higher level training and modern equipment to ensure that we are able to provide the best information and services possible to the relevant institutions, locally, regionally and internationally.”
