Verchild’s High takes Inter-School March Past title

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – GREEN VALLEY FALCONS, the cheerleading squad of Cayon High School, emerged winners of the Aquavita Cheerleading Competition last night (Mar. 23) at the Silver Jubilee Stadium.

The event, which was part of the TDC Inter-School Championships, saw the Green Valley Falcons scoring 63 points after their splendid performance against their lone competitors, the Basseterre High School National Bank’s Blue and Golden Eagles with 59.34 points.

The winning school received a cash prize of EC$1 800 and the Executive Cup, while EC$1 300 was awarded to BHS.

Western Union was the sponsor of monetary prizes.

Due to various reasons, including cost, commitment and choreography, other high schools were unable to participate in the competition which is geared towards the cheerleaders being a support group for their team entering the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletics Association Inter-School Competition.

Last year winners were the ‘Washy Wildcats’ of Washington Archibald High School’s (WAHS).

Verchild’s High School was adjudged winner of the March Past with 41 points, followed by BHS with 39.33 points and WAHS with 37.67 points.

The March Past began at about 7:00 p.m. and, while the scores were being tabulated, a performance was done by local rapper Dagah of the IRepSKN Music Group.

The turnout could have been better, as many are of the view that the lowl turnout was due to the fact that several schools, including last year’s winner, did not participate in the Cheerleading Competition.

The Inter-School Championships continue today at 2:00 p.m. and will end on Sunday (Mar. 25).

So far, last year’s winners WAHS have a total of three gold medals.
