Traffic offenders fined close to $14 000

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST about $13 700 in fines has to be paid by persons who were convicted during this month’s first three sessions of the Basseterre Traffic Court.

     

    The individuals appeared before Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe charged with offences ranging from parking in a no-waiting area to driving without due care and attention, with the imposed fines ranging from $200 to $1500.

     

    Keisha Williams of Lodge Village, who was convicted of driving without due care and attention, was fined $200 which is to be paid within two weeks or a two-week custodial sentence would be imposed.

     

    East Street, Basseterre resident Collis King was convicted of driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an unlicensed vehicle which resulted in him being fined $250 on each count. The fines are to be paid within two months or he would have to serve two months in prison. The offences were committed on August 4, 2011.

     

    For parking in a no waiting area, Chris Weekes of Middle Island was convicted and fined $200 to be paid forthwith or, in default, serve a one-week stint at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Pamella Chukwurah of Taylors was also convicted of parking in a no-waiting area and was fined $200 which was to have been paid forthwith or serve a custodial sentence. The offence was committed on November 1, 2011.

     

    James Robinson of St. Peters was fined $250 for a September 29, 2011 offence of driving without a seatbelt.

     

    For driving without a driver’s license and driving without insurance, Xavier McDonald of Conaree was fined $200 and $800 respectively. He has one month – from the date of conviction – to pay the fines or the court would impose a one-month prison sentence. The offences were committed on November 11, 2011.

     

    Claude Huggins of Lime Kiln, Josh DeSuza of Laguerite, Elcardo Jacobs of Taylors, Osbert Solomon of Palmetto Point and Earl Jones of Ponds Extension were all charged with separate counts of driving without due care and attention.

     

    Her Worship Mallalieu-Webbe convicted them all. They were however not fined but cautioned.

     

    Crispin Boon of Old Road was convicted of a March 8, 2012 offence of permitting Roger Benjamin to drive his vehicle while not covered by insurance. He was fined $1 000 to be paid within two months or serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    And for driving while not covered by insurance, Benjamin was convicted and cautioned.

     

    A $1 000 fine has to be paid by Prafhamt Mistry of Bird Rock for committing a March 8, 2012 offence of driving without insurance.

     

    Angel Pamler of Durant Avenue and James Davis of Shadwell were convicted of respective July 12, 2011 and May 10, 2011 offences of driving without due care and attention. They were both cautioned.

     

    A similar charge was preferred against Eversley Stapleton of Buckleys Estate and, upon conviction, he was fined $350 to be paid within one week or serve one week in prison.

     

    Lodge Village resident Jerome Thomas appeared before the court for driving without a valid driver’s license and was fined $200.

     

    Andre Young of Westbourne Ghaut was convicted of taking vehicle without the consent of the owner, driving without a valid driver’s license, driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance. He was cautioned on all but the last count, for which he was fined $1 000 to be paid within one week or serve a one-month custodial sentence.

     

    Both Dehorn Henry of Sandy Point and Heather Hotchin of St. Peters were required to pay $1 500 each after the individual for whom they stood as guarantors for bail – William Childs of St. Peters – failed to appear before the court when he was supposed to.

     

    Shoyin Yamai of Mattingley Heights has to pay a $1 000 fine for a driving without insurance offence.

     

    Other persons who appeared before the court were convicted of driving under the influence offences and in addition to being fined a total of $4 000. They were disqualified from holding a driver’s license for various periods.
