My electricity disconnection politically motivated…says Dupont

Carlton Duport

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BUSINESSMAN and member of Operation Rescue Carlton Dupont claims that he has been the subject of a politically motivated attack.

Dupont told this publication that the attack came in the form of disconnection of his electricity supply which he suggested was done in an attempt to humiliate him.

Earlier this week – as explained by the passionate social activist – he went to his business at the Pelican Mall only to find that his electricity had been disconnected.

Dupont admitted to owing the St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKLEC) but noted that he owed the company $1 240 and explained that in the past when he owed up to eight times that amount he was given a warning before his electricity was cut.

“What happened today is because of what I did to Ricky Skerritt last night on my programme. Ah buse’him! Why? He is a liar too! He said the boards he erected around the country were tourist boards ‘It’s working’. He lie!...It was to make sure they won the last elections and deceive people with VAT and 85 percent electricity…

“When I owed big money like $8 000 and $9 000, when I had big problems the guys would come and tell me before they cut my service, so I would give them the cheque. This morning they were instructed to pass me without talking to me and just go and cut my electricity. The idea is to embarrass me but I cannot be embarrassed because I am working to remove Dr. Douglas, Leroy Benjamin, and Mrs. Lawrence from the current dealing that they are doing in this country. Until they move, St. Kitts Nevis has no chance to move on.”

The Operation Rescue member said he is not easily embarrassed and knows - because of past hardships which he has endured – that he would be successful in all of his future endeavours.

“But they can’t embarrass me! I can’t go ‘brokes’ again in this country. I was $300 000 behind and businessman Tango and four other businessmen bailed me out and I am down now to $15 000 in debt. And once I pay that, everything is cleared up with me and I will manage my debt from there on.”

“The falling out between my wife and I has been a real problem because my wife has been a real good source of inspiration for me. We fell out and that has caused me to stumble on my face a bit. Let me tell you, those adversities that I have been through have made me much stronger because through the adversities I have learnt and known my strength. Nothing can keep me down.”

Dupont says he is resolute in channelling all his energy and resources towards removing Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas as the political leader of St. Christopher and Nevis.

“I want to be strong and win my people’s minds to show them that PAM and Labour are not important anymore. We need a government of national unity to look after the people, not any PAM people and any Labour people. We had enough of that! I had enough of that! And I am going to use all my money, all my energy to fight Dr. Douglas and those who sing for their supper.”

The entrepreneur - this publication understands – has since paid the sum and his electricity supply was restored.
