CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – EIGHT people were arrested during an ongoing operation mounted by a contingent of 20-plus members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police attached to the Nevis Division.

According to Inspector Andre Mitchell, those arrested are in custody assisting the Police with their investigations in relation to recent murders and shootings that occurred on Nevis.

Inspector Mitchell, who heads the ongoing operation, said the operation was mounted in a bid to rid the island of guns and ammunition as well as to flush out criminal elements.

“In response to recent shootings, we have conducted and will continue to conduct a series of operations aimed at ridding the island off guns and ammunition. We have conducted serious operations,” Inspector Mitchell said.

He said the raids had been mounted at Low Street, Stoney Grove, West Bury, Ramsbury, Bath Village and several persons were arrested. Three of them from Stoney Grove were arrested in connection with the Monday afternoon’s shooting incident; four were arrested at Low Street in connection with shooting incidents; and two persons were arrested in connection with Leon Hendrickson’s murder, which took place at Marion Avenue on June 10.    ~~Adz:Right~~

During the search of several dwelling houses, 17 rounds of ammunition were found.  Cocaine and vegetable material suspected to be cannabis were also found in empty lots of land.

“We searched houses after executing search of warrants. Homes of all suspects in custody were searched. Their dwelling homes were searched for firearms and controlled drugs.

“We do operations all the time as part of our investigative process, as part of our strategy, but given what has happened lately, we have had to redouble our efforts inorder to rid our society of crime and violence, which, in our assessment is committed by a few misguided youths,” Inspector Mitchell said.
