54th Easter Monday Aquatic Sports slated for this weekend

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, April 2nd 2012 - The Annual Basil Henderson 54th Easter Monday Aquatic Sport Meet will take place at the Basseterre Ferry Terminal on Monday, April 9th, 2012, starting at 9a.m sharp.

     

    This year’s event will once again be opened by Mr. Lloyd Lazar, the former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and the current Caribbean representative to the Commonwealth Advisory Board on Sport, as well as the Chairman of Special Olympics for Saint Kitts and Nevis. Other speakers include the representative of the main sponsor, Courts.

     

    Pastor, Dr. Eustace Rawlins will be invoking God’s blessings on the proceedings as usual.

     

    The 54th year of the Aquatic Sports Meet commemorates the life and times of a venerable patriarch, who gave his whole being to the 4-H organization, which he started and nurtured in St. Kitts and Nevis. The Easter Monday Aquatic Sport Meet is being coordinated by Cultural Preservationist Mr. Winston Zack Nisbett, who is supported by several dedicated volunteers, including Mr. Earl Clarke who has been a stalwart 4-H’er for 38 years.

     

    Besides the traditional swimming races, the fetching of the ham and the climbing of the greased pole, the newer even of kayaking is once again being sponsored by Dave Water Sports.

     

    Meanwhile, the popular greasy pole competitions have attracted sponsorship form Mr. Thomas Williams, who is giving the cash reward for the Vertical Pole, and Rams and John Richard, who are donating one Ham each for the Horizontal Greasy Pole Event.

     

    Mrs. Agnes Skerrit, one of the longest-serving 4-H members, not only in St. Kitts but in the entire Caribbean, and one of the co-architects of the 4H organization’s development, will be handing out the prizes at around 4p.m.

     

    Afternoon entertainment includes Exhibition Youth boxing matches (male and female), as well as the entertainment form various acts such as Garry, who will be exciting the audience with his limbo dancing.

     

    Music will be provided by DJ Dice.

     

    The organizers would like to thank the business community for the magnitude of their invaluable support for this community development and enhancement sporting activity, which continues to attract much family-oriented support from the general populace.
