BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IT was a close call but the athletes from Cayon Primary School were successful in pulling out all stops to emerge winners of the RAMS 2012 Primary School Championships.

Notwithstanding that Tucker Clarke Primary was ahead of the game following the end of the second day of competition, Cayon and Sandy Point Primary School were almost neck and neck during the final day of the event.

The meet concluded with both schools gaining eight gold medals each and in such circumstances, the winner would be determined to be the school with the most silver medals.

And even that was not enough to determine the winner because they both gained seven silver medals each.

The tie-breaker came however when the bronze medals for the Cayon and Sandy Point Primary Schools were tallied; and receiving five more than Sandy Point’s two, Cayon Primary was declared the winner.

The event – according to officials of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) – was “the keenest competition in the championship’s history”.

Having dethroned last year’s champions, St. Pauls Primary, Cayon Primary received an EC$1 000 prize and Sandy Point ran away with EC$750 for taking second place.

Third, fourth and fifth places went to Tucker Clarke, Beach Allen and Dr. William Connor Primary, who received cash prizes of $EC600, EC$450 and EC$300 respectively.

The best performer for the RAMS 2012 Primary School Championships and winner of the Victrix Ludorum title is Olujede Bridgewater. Not only did she win four events but she broke the records for all of them.

A total of 13 records were broken during the 2012 Championships.

Additionally, this is the fourth consecutive time that she has won the Victrix Ludorum title.

The Victor Ludorum is Dimetre Browne of the Sandy Point Primary School.

A beautiful display of fireworks sprang into and exploded in the air signalling the end of yet another successful and memorable RAMS Primary School Championships.

The SKNAAA, according to a press release, “extends sincere thanks to all of the stakeholders involved in making this season a huge success. One can expect more excitement when we host our annual National Invitational and Club Championships on June 3rd and the OECS Invitational on June 10th 2012”.
