BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE hype and excitement was promised to be intensified and that is just what happened when, like the theme says "Everybody Come", many turned out to participate in and witness the noble event dubbed Tractorcade.

On Saturday (Mar. 31), tractors of all sizes and people of all ages hit the streets of Sandy Point in grand style to partake in the final pre-event before the grand official opening of the Sandy Pointers Inspiring Real Improvement Throughout (SPIRIT)'s Black San bang-a-Lang festival.

This one of a kind event combined the "Eat local, Buy local" theme with the energetic street jam that nationals of the twin-island Federation so much love.

With energetic Hi-Fi systems leading the way, the parade saw a number of tractors well-decorated with cane grass, fig tree and palm leaves.

The tractors carried locally grown fruits and vegetables including green figs, potatoes, tanyas, dasheens and watermelons as well as livestock, including chickens and rabbits.

Both males and females went out in their numbers adorned in famer's outfits, some carrying gardening tools such as pitchforks, shovels and hoes while others had animals by their side.

With placards, flyers, posters and other gadgets in hand, members of the Sandy Point Agricultural Cooperative Society Ltd. (SPACS) also went out in their numbers and took the Tractorcade by storm, as they were seen dancing back and forth throughout the entire event selling produce and displaying agricultural items all in an effort to support the ongoing promotion of the importance of agriculture in the Federation.

Hundreds of persons lined the streets to get a glimpse of the auspicious event. Some were having so much fun looking on that they could not help but make their way into the parade to get a piece of the action.

The parade of tractors kicked off from Romney Ground, Cleverly Hill in Sandy Point and travelled along the island's main road down 42nd Street and back on the main road, where it culminated at Sandy Bank (Hard Court) for the official opening ceremony to start the ball rolling on one of the biggest festivals in St. Kitts.
