BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- CARIBBEAN Industrial Gases S.A.R.L (CIG) officially opened its St. Kitts branch yesterday when the company began operations from Canada Industrial Estate.
CIG Director Tony Whitney explained that hospitals and other consumers would now have easier access to industrial Oxygen as the operation has the capacity to fill 40 cylinders with oxygen in an hour and can store about 3000 gallons of liquid oxygen, which is brought to them in their own Bio-silt container.
Whitney also specified that CIG St. Kitts would be processing Oxygen that was certified 99.9% pure in accordance with United States Pharmaceutical standards and the finished product would be used mainly by hospitals.
CIG St. Kitts currently has two persons employed excluding Whitney and as the company expands, he said, so would the staff.
Whitney unveiled plans to diversify and expand into production of other gases saying, “We are seriously looking at putting up a plant to produce Acetylene which is the fuel gas used for welding. Oxygen and acetylene are needed to produce the heat for welding and cutting. We’re planning to ship the Acetylene in but we’d like to get away from that and set up our own plant.” ~~Adz:Right~~
CIG was started in St Maarten in 1998 and has expanded to include a second plant in St. Martin, one in Jamaica and have now added the plant in St. Kitts.
