Press Release

KINGSTOWN St.Vincent, March 30th, 2012  --  Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, said several persons will receive training as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of the recently established National Task Force against Human Trafficking.

Dr. Gonsalves, who also serves as National Security Minister and Chairman of the Task Force, said the unit has been established at the Questelles Police Station and will be officially launched next month.

He said the launch will coincide with the second in a series of training workshops organized by the International Organization of Migration.

Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Dr. Gonsalves said the training will be delivered to 25 officials in the form of a ‘Train the Trainers’ programme from April 11th to 13th.

The third in the series of training programmes will take place in May to June this year.

Dr. Gonsalves also noted that the first quarterly report from the unit is due on March 31st 2012, in keeping with the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act of 2011.

The bill, passed in September 2011, is intended to give effect to and implement the Protocol to suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children.
