GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Head of the Civil Registry Department Leona Romeo-Marlin says her department concluded a successful workshop with stakeholders last Friday with respect to the further improvement of services being rendered; creating awareness of the duties and responsibilities of the department; and thirdly, reinforcing and exchanging information for the sole purpose of obtaining and maintaining a reliable basic administration.

The importance of obtaining accurate information from the Civil Registry Department was emphasized during the interactive workshop.

Similarly the Department of Civil Registry stressed the importance of being provided with updated information as the consequences of not having reliable information are numerous.

The presenter of the workshop, Leona Romeo-Marlin, discussed the “domino effect” that occurs due to lack of information and/or cooperation of citizens as well as internal and external partners.

The need to close the “gaps/loopholes” was recognized by the stakeholders present and immediate actions and cooperation were pledged. Romeo-Marlin deemed the workshop a huge success as the objectives were met.

Participants of the workshop included the Tax Department, Social Insurance Bank SZV, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Statistics, St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation, the Study Financing Department, Foreign Affairs BAK and Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Development and Infrastructure (VROMI).

Those requiring information about the services of the department can call 542-2457.
