BASSETERRE, St. Kitts:  A house fire that took place earlier this morning at New Road Housing Project has left the contents of two bedrooms destroyed and a third bedroom partially damaged.

The one storey concrete structure was not visibly damaged on the outside but billows of smoke could be seen escaping through the window structures.

SKNVibes.com spoke to the owner of the house Ron Dublin Collins who said, “I don’t know how the fire started. I just got a call saying my house was on fire and I rushed up here.

According to Deputy Fire Chief James Warner, they received the report about the fire at approximately 9:25 a.m. and upon arrival learned that some construction workers who were nearby had already broke into the house to assist a young girl. She was reportedly the sole occupant of the house at the time.

The girl, said to be Collins’ teenage daughter was reportedly unharmed however when SKNVibes.com arrived on the scene, the girl was not present and the authorities said they had not been able to speak to her since their arrival.

Warner said they will continue their investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

In an unrelated but similar incident, police arrested a juvenile who is suspected of causing a fire which occurred yesterday, June 22nd at Water Works, Cayon.

According to Fire Officer Everet O’Garro, Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a fire around 2:20 p.m. The report indicated that a house in the Water Works area was on fire and upon arrival firemen met the house of Joseph Charles engulfed in flames.

He said the concrete and wooden structure was complete destroyed along with all its contents. The fire officer did comment on what led investigators to suspect arson in that case.
