BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young woman and a male juvenile were arrested and charged yesterday (Apr. 5) by plain clothes operatives of the Delta Squad for possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply another, with a street value of EC$75 000.
According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector, the woman, 22-year-old Hilisha Leader, the juvenile and an infant were at the St. Kitts Ferry Terminal waiting to board a vessel to Nevis when the incident occurred.
Hector said the plain clothes operatives of the Delta Squad, who were tasked with monitoring the ferries for suspicious activities, had observed the couple acting in a suspicious manner.
“The compressed marijuana with a street value of $60 000 was found in the possession of Leader and her juvenile accomplice. A secondary search disclosed another $15 000 worth of marijuana, bringing the total value of marijuana seized during this arrest to $75 000. Both persons were charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply another,” Hector said.
The PRO noted that this seizure reflects the continued vigilance of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in implementing its strategies of taking back the streets from criminals.
“Though crime has been reduced in the Federation, the Commissioner of Police continues to impress upon all officers of the need to be vigilant and timely in response so as to ensure that our valued customers are given the best possible service,” Hector added.
