    550 marijuana plants uprooted in Police operations

    ~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - MEMBERS of the Federation’s Police Force uprooted 550 marijuana plants during operations conducted between June 19 and June 21, 2008.

     

    A Police press release informs that the operations were conducted in the Tabernacle, Boyds Mansion, Cayon and Sandy Point areas.

     

    The Sandy Point operation took place on Thursday, June 19 and during searches for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition, 25 marijuana plants were discovered growing at Downing Street on an empty plot of land. The plants, ranging in height from two feet to eight feet, were uprooted and secured by the Police. 

     

    The Tabernacle operation was conducted on June 21, 2008, during which “…a total of 150 marijuana plants were found growing in an abandoned house at Carty’s Pasture. The plants ranged in height from seedlings to one foot and were uprooted and taken into police custody.”

     

    In the Mansion area, Police officers found a quantity of marijuana plants and an air rifle.

     

    Police said 25 marijuana plants were found growing in several containers and an air rifle was discovered in an abandoned house at Long Alley, Mansion Village. A total of 150 plants were also found growing in several containers on a plot of land at Mansion Housing Project. The marijuana plants and the air rifle have been seized by the Police.

     

    Cane fields in the Cayon and Boyds areas were also searched during Police operations conducted on Saturday, June 21 and 200 marijuana plants, ranged in height from seedlings to 10 feet, were found growing therein. These were also seized by the Police.

     

    The Police have indicated that, to date, no one has been held for the finds during the three-day operations.

     

    Meanwhile, on Friday, June 20, a search warrant for controlled drugs, arms, ammunition and stolen goods was executed by the Police on the premises of Gavin Morryshow of Fig Tree, Sandy Point. 

     

    He was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and cultivation of cannabis after a quantity of marijuana seeds and other items were found and seized by the Police.

     

    Investigations into that matter are ongoing.
