Press Release

ST.JOHN'S Antigua, April 10th,  2012  --  Alton Forde, Head of the Fiennes Institute is calling for assistance from governmental agencies such as the Ministry Of Finance, Social Security, Treasury, Legal Affairs and Ministry of Health.

Forde wants these agencies to join forces and look at policies and legislation that will allow for a more transparent process when dealing with payments to pensioners. According to the Fiennes Institute head, there is a serious issue of pensioner’s funds being misappropriated by relatives.

Forde complains of the commonplace behavior of some relatives who frequent the Institute once a month to secure the signatures for pension collection but do not return to see about the welfare of the individuals.

Forde is urging the authorities to create legislature in which wards at the Fiennes Institute will have their pensions relinquished to the Government so that the finances will go back to the state. Similar legislation is already in place in many countries around the world.

The Fiennes Institute is a state-owned institution which houses the country’s displaced senior citizens.
