Press Release (BVI)

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, April 11th, 2012   –  A recent decision by Cabinet to establish the Financial Services Business Development Committee (FSBDC), illustrates Government’s commitment to reinvigorate the BVI’s financial services industry through public-private collaboration.

Approved on February 15, the Committee’s role is to build on the ideas gleaned from the financial services industry/ Government consultation in January of this year, and to create action plans to foster the enhancement of the financial services industry.

The members are currently engaged in the review of the various sectors for the purpose of reporting to Cabinet its various recommendations for industry growth.

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE told the Department of Public Relations, “This Committee is an asset to advising Government on how best we can enhance and promote the financial services’ industry offerings.

It is proof that January’s consultation was a tremendous success having key players in the right place at the right time to come together to form this team of industry experts.”

The Committee is now subdivided into smaller working groups and has co-opted the services of other Government personnel as well as members of the Financial Services Commission, the International Finance Centre and the International Affairs Secretariat to work towards the robust enhancement of the industry.
