Digicel SKB Super 7 Business Cricket League

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN a matter of weeks, the Digicel SKB Super 7 Business Cricket League will get underway with participating teams playing for a year’s worth of bragging rights and an attractive $10 000 prize.

The business league - organised by Twist Bar and Grill and sponsored by Digicel, Carib and NAGICO – will be held over a three-day period (June 8-10) and is expected to see more than teams fighting for supremacy at Warner Park.

Teams wishing to participate in the league are required to submit a $1 500 fee along with their registration.

Organisers of the event informed that the teams so far registered are Digicel, Carib, Carambola, Twist, Kittitian Hill, Xpetrol Highlights (Nevis), Diamond Island, Ocean Cold Storage, Sun Island, Rum Barrel, Glitter, Bar Association, Marriott Royal Casino, Ghost Riders, Toucan Sounds, Nagico, Karibhana, Gold Mine, Hot 7, Shiggidy Shack, Calypso Tours and RedDevils.

Each team must have seven members and it is mandatory that each player must bowl one over.

Also, no under arm bowling will be permitted and after any particular batsman makes 27 runs, he/she would be required to retire so as to give an opportunity for others to take a swing at things. And after the sixth batsman would have exhausted his/her over, he/she would act as runner for the final batsman.

Teams are not gender-specific and they would all be placed into two groups.

The rules of the league dictate that each team would play only two matches and each time a team wins a match, it would receive two points. If at that end of that process there is a tie in any of the groups, the team with the most runs would advance to the semi-finals.

Four teams, two from each group, would advance to the semi-finals from which a winner would emerge.

As a means of levelling the playing field, each team is allowed only one professional or celebrity player.

The event promises to be filled with entertainment and sport, and any other team wishing to register is invited to contact Sunny Gehani at (869) 762-8366 or email sunnysxm@yahoo.com Registration closes on April 30.

Patrons can also expect live musical entertainment which would be provided by local bands.

Admission for each day of the event is EC$10.
