KINGSTOWN St.Vincent, April 11th, 2012 -- Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has said that government has implemented several changes in the Criminal Justice System that have made it difficult for criminals to be acquitted.
Prime Minister Gonsalves was speaking at a recent signing ceremony for an Aerial Intercept Assistance Agreement with the United States.
He said they have rebalanced some of the provisions in the law and have provided an avenue for police officers to appeal decisions made by the court.
Meanwhile, a United States Government Official has commended the government of this country for enacting the law mandating video recording of all interviews with suspects of major felony investigations.
Charge d’Affairs of the US Embassy of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Christopher Sandrolini gave this commendation during a recent signing ceremony here.
Mr. Sandrolini said the recently enacted law is an important step forward in the region, to improve the rule of law and assure that the guilty are punished and the innocent are protected.
He also said the reforms to the Criminal Justice Systems in St Vincent and the Grenadines are important steps to combat crime in the region.
