LICA Announces plans for the Celebration of One Hundred Years of Leeward Islands Cricket

    April 11th 2012 – St John’s, Antigua: The Leeward Islands Cricket Association Board today announced plans to celebrate its Centenary in 2013, having been founded in 1913.
     
    Commensurate with the Historic significance and importance of that Milestone, and given the developmental, social, cultural and National contribution of Cricket to the Leeward Islands, L.I.C.A will celebrate the Centenary with a series of events showcasing the indelible and integral part which Cricket has played in the fabric of Leeward Islands Life.
     
    In this regard, L.I.C.A is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr. Tommy Astaphan of Anguilla to be Chairman of the "Leeward Islands Cricket Centenary Celebrations Committee".  Mr. Astaphan, who has been involved in Cricket in the Leeward Islands since the late 1960's when he ventured into cricket commentary, served as the President of the Anguilla Cricket Association, was a Member of the Leeward Islands Board and Managed the 1996 Leeward Islands Team in the West Indies Shell-Sandals One Day Tournament in Jamaica, and is well known to Cricket in the Region. Mr. Astaphan will be assisted by Mr. Benjamin Hughes, L.I.C.A Vice President, in the compilation of the Centenary Committee which will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the Program of Events for the Centenary Celebrations.
     
    L.I.C.A invites the full co-operation and assistance of all persons, corporations, N.G.O's, other institutions and Governments, sub-regionally, regionally and internationally, with the Centenary Committee so as to ensure that this milestone is given its proper place in the History of West Indies Cricket.
