SKABA welcomes new telecoms sponsor Digicel

Press Release (DIGICEL)

Digicel sponsors Basketball Premier League to tune of $25,000

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 12th, 2012  –  Eight (8) teams have registered to take part in the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association (SKABA) Premier League, which will run for the next three months, powered this year by Digicel - The Bigger, Better Network.

The love for Basketball has re-energized throughout the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis over the past few years, and Digicel is ensuring that the players and fans of the sport continue to enjoy the memories created at Basketball City.  Digicel’s sponsorship package of EC$25,000 will assist with the successful hosting of the League and prize rewards for this year’s champion team and outstanding players. As is expected, Digicel’s Marketing Team will bring the usual “Digicel Flair” on select game nights with halftime entertainment, exciting competitions and giveaways.

During a sponsorship meeting with the President of SKABA, Rommel Tobias, Digicel’s Country Manager Sean Latty stated “This is yet another great opportunity for Digicel to partner with the sporting community in providing wholesome entertainment for not only the basketball fraternity, but also the lovers of the sport.”

While at the opening ceremony of the SKABA Premiere League on Sunday 1st April, 2012, Digicel’s Marketing Manager, Marsha Chatterjee was on hand to present the cheque to Mr. Tobias on behalf of the Basketball Association. “We are absolutely delighted to come on board as the major and exclusive telecoms sponsor of the SKABA Premier League,” stated Chatterjee.

In addressing the team members of the 2012 League, Chatterjee implored the participants “As your new Sponsors, we encourage you to raise the bar of Basketball in St Kitts & Nevis. Allow your fans to know you, not by the number on your jersey, your height or athletic skills, but by your sound character, discipline and sportsmanship.”

In accepting Digicel’s sponsorship cheque, Mr. Tobias commented that “SKABA has now found a new home at the Bigger, Better Network. The SKABA team is grateful for Digicel’s commitment to the sport and we encourage everyone to come out and support this year’s League which promises to be very exciting.”

Digicel is continuing to develop sport within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The Bigger, Better Network has recently revived the sport of Volleyball as the sole sponsor of the Business Volleyball League and has done the same with the Business Football League, which will commence on Saturday 21st April, 2012. Digicel continues to support Grassroots Cricket and Football in both St. Kitts and Nevis, also signaling the company’s commitment to the development of youth and sports.
