ST. KITTS- NEVIS NATIONAL IS NOW PRESIDENT OF THE UWI CAVE HILL LAW SOCIETY

    UWI Cave Hill Law Society, Barbados - On March 13, 2012, The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill conducted its annual elections to elect the official Guild of Students’ councillors for the academic year 2012-13. Mr. Azard Gumbs, who contested the dual position of Law Representative & Constitutional Chairperson of the Guild had the edge over the other candidate and was elected by a landslide. Gumbs received 65% of the votes cast. As Law Representative of the Guild of Students 2012-13, Mr. Gumbs is now by extension the President of the UWI Cave Hill Law Society, which is the official student representative body comprising of all students within the Faculty of Law.

     

    The Handing Over Ceremony of the UWI Cave Hill Law Society took place on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m at the Mount Restaurant, Cave Hill Campus, under the theme “Extending the Legal Legacy.” The event served to honour the hard work of the previous executive, diligent members of their respective committees and to formally introduce the new executive to the Law
    Society.

     

    The event was organized by Mr. Gumbs and his executive. Among the attendees were lecturers within the Faculty of Law, the President of the Guild of Students, members of the Law Society and the student body at large. The Guest Speaker for the ceremony was the Hon. Mr Justice Marston Gibson, the Chief Justice of Barbados. Justice Gibson spoke not only to his experience as Chief Justice of Barbados but was also able to share his experiences as a past student and past lecturer at Cave Hill in the Faculty of Law and encourage the students to carry on the tradition of excellence that the Faculty is known for.

     

    Mr. Gumbs in his address noted that the evening marked “…the official beginning of a new trajectory and the dawn of a new leadership with the common attributes of vision, inclusiveness and devotion to duty.”

     

    During his time at Cave Hill, Azard served as President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Students’ Association for the academic year 2011-12 and is the 2008 runner-up State Scholar of St. Kitts-Nevis.
