Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, April 16th 2012 - The Concerned Citizens Movement was on Friday 13th April 2012 invited to participate in a National Day of Fasting and Prayer being organized by the Nevis Island Administration. Our letter of invitation stated, “the committee supporting this event is asking you to take part in this occasion as a member of the Opposition team; once you inform us of your availability, we will communicate with you shortly to discuss where you can fit into the service.”

As a Party founded on Christian principles which has always had as its core belief a sense of decency and morality, the CCM and its supporters continue to seek justice and the preservation of law and order. As a party, We recognize that we always need to invoke God's divine intervention. This is especially so at a time such as this when the integrity of our nation and the fundamental rights of our people have been compromised and undermined for political expediency.

As such, the Concerned Citizens Movement cannot be party to any religious masquerading seeking unity while our people continue to be blatantly disenfranchised. As a party, we believe that true healing, redemption and unity can only come after those responsible for trampling upon the rights of our fellow citizens have confessed and sought forgiveness both from our people and from the Almighty. True reconciliation comes only after all of us are prepared to accept and admit the truth as to why our beloved island finds itself in this moral and social quagmire.

The service for unity through Fasting and Prayer must be seen to be in harmony with our desire to do what is right and fair not using religion to perpetuate mockery on an already undermined democracy. God is not mocked and the CCM Party looks forward to participate in a National Day of Prayer organized by the clergy where truth, confession, reconciliation and redemption are the objectives.

The Party encourages all citizens and residents to continue to pray for our beloved island.
