BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 1ST 2008 (CUOPM) – Sun St. Kitts/Nevis said Monday that there are signs that the twin-island Federation continues to be aware of the wonderfully clean image it has in the eyes of the rest of the world and hopes to keep it intact.

In its editorial captioned “Maintaining our Image,” the Federation’s independent daily said that the people of St. Kitts/Nevis have proven once again that when it comes to putting their best foot forward to impress the rest of a very critical world they usually come away with flying colours.

“This is not something that has started to happen recently but we can say that since the country got involved in hosting an annual music festival, the standard has been lifted even higher.

Now, people of the region and even further afield have come to expect nothing less from this Federation as it has delivered time after time on each event it has put together. To the country’s credit as well, it has been able to use good foresight in its deliberations to further enhance its reputation as an organiser and host,” said the Sun’s editorial.

It added: “From the days of the music festival at the Fort Thomas Hotel to the recent change of venue to Warner Park, nothing much has been sacrificed in the way of quality. All stakeholders have always been fully onboard and year after year, the festival has continued to develop even while others like it flounder and try to keep up”

Sun St. Kitts/Nevis further stated: “If what has happened with the music festival is not proof enough that the country can do things properly, then one only has to consider the move to maintain the culture, features and environment of Warner Park even under the pressure of getting ready to host ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, especially when so many other jurisdictions were scrambling to create new facilities.”

“The business was handled so well that the country has earned the right to host the last two One-Day Internationals to be played in a few days between the West Indies and Australia.”

Sun St. Kitts/Nevis suggested that although the West Indies has already lost the series, “crowds will not only come out to support the team but will do so to support regional cricket and the local authorities so that the series can end on a high note in a country already accustomed to excellence.”

~~Adz:Left~~It noted that earlier this year, St. Kitts and Nevis successfully hosted the biggest regional junior sporting event, when it held the CARIFTA Games 2008 and won the plaudits of regional officials, scouts and athletes alike. Commendations were also made to flow following the hosting of CARIFESTA some years ago.

“All of this has come from the people of this country carrying a certain pride and never wanting to have visitors leaving St. Kitts/Nevis with any tainted views of the country and its people. Of course, there will always be those people whose behaviour would have been a bit questionable but the authorities have to take credit for their planning which usually leads to negative situations being kept to a minimum. The citizens, knowing that the law is on the lookout and that nothing untoward would be tolerated, normally rise to the occasion and do their part in making sure popular events end on a high note,” said the paper.

It stated that on this year, there will be at least three other events that will ask serious questions of the attitude of the people and their ability to operate at a relatively high level.

“The country’s 25th anniversary of Independence is in September of this year and none will want the fun and frolic associated with such an event to get out of hand. General elections and the annual Carnival are also in the air. We believe the organisation of each of these situations will be of the usual high standard and the behaviour of the people will again be exemplary,” the Sun St. Kitts/Nevis editorial stated.
