    BRADES, Montserrat, April 18th, 2012 – Five activities to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II are being planned for the month of June announced His Excellency, Governor Adrian Davis on Wednesday.

     

    Speaking at his monthly press briefing, the governor said the first event is slated for June 4 will be the lighting of the World Jubilee Beacon. Similar lightings will be happening in the UK and around the world in Commonwealth nations. A fireworks display is to follow the ceremony.

     

    Almost 100 Golden Jubilee medals will be handed out to Defence Force members, along with Police, Fire and Prison Officers who have served five years continuous service on June 7. The Queen’s Birthday Parade is to be held on June 16 at Little Bay. The official Queen’s Birthday Party is scheduled for June 17 and a sporting event is also being organised.

     

    The Queen acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI.
