~~Adz:Left~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MICHAEL ‘VASCA’ WILLIAMS was on last Thursday exonerated of causing death by dangerous driving after the prosecution filed a motion of nolle prosequi [formal notice that prosecution in a criminal case will be ended as to one or more counts].

Williams was accused of causing the death of 25-year-old Corrine Francis of St. Pauls.  According to information provided after the April, 2005 incident, Francis was travelling in motorcar RA463 which was driven by Williams when it collided with a wall on the seaward side of the road, just opposite the Chinese Restaurant in Sandy Point.

Francis succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment, and became the Federation’s second road fatality for 2005.

Williams, whose case was traversed on more than one occasion, appeared before the Basseterre High Court on Thursday 26, 2008 at which point the Director of Public Prosecutions, Paulina Hendrickson, verbally informed the court that the prosecution has no intention to proceed with the case.

She also informed that the appropriate documentation was filed in accordance with the prosecution’s intentions.

Williams was informed by presiding Judge, Justice Alfred Redhead, that the charge against him was dropped owing to the prosecution’s decision not to continue with the case.
