One hospitalised from New Guinea traffic accident

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A traffic accident in the New Guinea area has resulted in one man being transported to the Joseph N France General Hospital and another to the Pogson Medical Centre for treatment to their injuries.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. today (Apr. 20), two vehicles collided while travelling along the Island Main Road in the vicinity of New Guinea.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes was told that while Toyota Pick-up P3097, driven by St.Clair Gilbert of Sandy Point, was travelling west along the Island Main Road, the rear right wheel had a blowout causing the vehicle to collide with P8558, driven by Warrington Rogers of Halfway Tree, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The front of P3097 struck the right side of P8558 causing it to topple and rest on its left side north of the Island Main Road, while the other vehicle came to a halt after running into a concrete structure also on the northern side of the road.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged; the front of P3097 was smashed while both sides of P8558 were badly dented.

Rogers suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Pogson Medical Centre in Sandy Point, while Gilbert, from whose forehead oozed blood, was taken to the JNF Hospital.

SKNVibes was however unable to ascertain the severity of the men's injuries and is uncertain if Gilbert was detained for observation and additional treatment.

In addition to officers from the Sandy Point Police Station, a unit from the Sandy Point Branch of the Fire and Rescue Services was present at the scene.

Members of that unit, with assistance from public-spirited citizens, removed the Toyota Pick-up from the path of oncoming traffic which was temporarily impeded.
