CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – JUST as residents on Nevis were enjoying a relatively calm period after the June shooting incidents, four persons are in custody assisting Police with their investigations into an armed robbery that took place last night in Cotton Ground.

Reports reaching this media house indicate that bandits entered the E&F Supermarket in Cotton Ground last night and took away a handbag belonging to a female cashier at gunpoint.

Owner of the supermarket, Nevisian-born Everson ‘Monkey’ Nisbett told SKNVibes that he was not at the premises at the time of time of the robbery and indicated that the cashier was “very shaken and traumatised”. He however informed that when she would have recovered from the ordeal, he would encourage her to speak to the press.

One of the employees, Ronson France, who had already left for his residence, which is within proximity of the supermarket, said at about 9:30 p.m. he realised something was amiss when he heard the alarm in the supermarket went off, followed by the incessant blaring of a jeep’s horn.

“I heard when the alarm in the supermarket went off and also the constant blowing of a

jeep’s horn. I also heard the lady’s screams and I rushed there, but the robbers had left.  The community knows who the bad boys are but we cannot pinpoint the robbers.  Hanging penalty should be reinstated,” France said.

He also informed that the jeep, from which the horn was blowing, was the vehicle that the robbers used to escape from the scene.

This was confirmed by Nisbett, who noted that his employees had provided him the information. “The robbers had a vehicle parked far across the road. According to the lady cashier, one robber had a gun; one had his head wrapped with a white T-shirt and one with a black tam. The Police were notified and they came immediately, and during their investigation they found the tam.”

Nisbett said this is the second time his supermarket was been robbed, noting the first was a break-in four years ago and no one was arrested for that offence.

Nisbett said he was born in Fountain and has worked hard since he was 17 years old.   ~~Adz:Left~~

“I was not raised by a father but I worked hard and I am still working hard. People should not take what a man has worked for so hard,” he said.  Nisbett said while in the US Virgin Islands for 17 years, he felt homesick daily because he missed “peaceful and tranquil Nevis”. “Everyday”, he added, “I thought about Nevis.”

“These young people want easy money to spend during Culturama,” he said. He called on all stakeholders to work together to make sure Nevis remains peaceful for locals and tourists, and noted “tourists need to be reassured all the time”.

“It is a small minority that wants to spoil the peace. Members of the community know who are the bad boys; and the police too! Let’s all work to keep Nevis peaceful,” he pleaded.
