BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN their relentless effort to rid the Federation of firearms, ammunition, controlled drugs and to take back the streets from criminal elements, members of the Delta Squad within two days had uprooted over 9 000 marijuana plants in St. Kitts.

Information reaching this media house states that sometime after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 18), members of the Delta Squad conducted an operation in the mountain area of Halfway Tree, where they located a large plot of land under cultivation.

Upon close examination of the produce under cultivation, the officers realised it was cannabis sativa which amounted to some 6 000 plants of varying sizes.

The plants were uprooted and taken into custody but no one was arrested for the find.

On the following day at approximately 4:00 p.m., members of the Delta Squad struck again, but this time in the cane fields of Conaree Village.

SKNVibes learnt that from among a burnt out area of cane, the officers found over 3 000 plants of cannabis sativa, also of varying sizes.

The officers uprooted the plants, which they had placed on the side of the Island’s Main Road before taking them into custody.

Over the past three weeks, according to SKNVibes’ record, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have arrested a number of persons who were in possession of controlled drugs, uprooted over 9 343 cannabis sativa plants and 500 seedlings and caught two individuals with the controlled drugs that had a street value of EC$75 000.
