BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE weekend was marred with news that three shooting incidents took place in one night leaving one man dead, one in critical condition and another nursing a gunshot wound to the leg.

Sometime before 10:00 last evening [July 5], SKNVibes was notified of a shooting that occurred in the vicinity of the Basseterre Fire Station and investigations revealed that a young male, identified as Darnel Webster, was shot while at Sandown Road.

A Police press release informs that at about 9:30 p.m. the 18-year-old Sandown Road resident was walking along the said road “when he was attacked and shot multiple times about his body by an armed assailant”.

An Emergency Medical Services Unit was dispatched to the scene and transported Webster to the Joseph N. France General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Webster is the Federation’s 12th murder victim for the year. Two of these homicides occurred in Nevis while the remaining 10 took place in St. Kitts.

Nineteen-year-old Mahari Peets of John England Village, St. Peters was the victim of the second shooting incident which reportedly took place in the vicinity of his home. Police indicated that while Peets was walking towards his home, he was “fired upon by an unknown assailant” and “sustained a gunshot injury to his foot”.

Peets was taken to the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital, where, according to reports, he is a patient.

The third incident took place at approximately 11:15 p.m. and, as SKNVibes understands, 24-year-old Shamari Williams of New Road, St. Peters was shot in the head.

Information released by the Police states that while Williams was driving along George Street, Newtown in the vicinity of Hope Chapel, “some person(s) opened fire on the vehicle” which resulted in him being “shot on the right side of his head.” He reportedly then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another which was stationary.   ~~Adz:Left~~

Williams was admitted to the JNF Hospital and is said to be in “critical condition”.

The Police are appealing to anyone with information about these crimes to call the Criminal Investigation Department at telephone 465-2241 ext. 220, 230, 236 or the crime hotline, 707.

The public is being reminded of the Police’s promise that all information given would be treated with the strictest confidence.
