Guyanese family beaten, robbed under gunpoint

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A Guyanese family of four residing on Nevis were beaten and robbed under gunpoint by four masked men on Tuesday night (Apr. 24).

Information reaching SKNVibes states that the incident occurred at the family’s Brown Hill home at approximately 8:00 p.m. and the victims are Priscilla Hyman, her 11-year-old son Jordon December, and cousins Terrance Ross (18) and 19-year-old Troy Sankar.

Speaking with this media house, Hyman said that at about 8:00 p.m. someone knocked on her front door and called for Terrance.

“On opening the door, Terrance was confronted by a masked individual dressed in dark clothing and carrying a gun while three others, dressed in the same manner, surrounded the house.”

Hyman, who works at Coconut Grove, said she had arrived home during the said time the man had held her cousin at gunpoint.

“I drove into the yard and, after parking my car, I was approached by one of the men who also had a gun. I was taken to the front door where the other gunman had held Terrance and two others surfaced.

“They entered the house with us, within which were my son and other cousin, Troy. They took us into the kitchen and told us to sit. While sitting they were ransacking the house while we watched and one of them told us to put our faces towards the wall.

“The four intruders then asked us for money and Terrance said that we hadn’t any. In response, they started to beat Terrance. While beating him, they kicked him several times and they also kicked my son,” Hyman said.

She noted that in an attempt to stop the flow of blows, Terrance went to a certain part of the home and returned with EC$500 which he gave to the bandits.

“They took the money and one of them said, ‘How you find money now, where is the remainder of the money?’ and they started to beat him again.”

Hyman also noted that while ransacking her home, the bandits carted off one black Toshiba Laptop computer, five gold rings and one Nokia cellular phone.

She further noted that they demanded the key to her car (P5022), blindfolded Terrance and fled the scene in it, within which the teenager was held hostage and ordered not to speak or to attempt to escape.

Following their departure from the scene, Terrance returned some one hour after driving Hyman’s car and explained that while in the area of Hamilton Estate the bandits had stopped the car and made good their escape.

Asked if any member of her family could identify the perpetrators, Hyman responded in the negative, reiterating that “they were masked and our faces were towards the wall throughout the ordeal within the house”.

The matter was reported to the police, but when contact was made at the Charlestown Police Station to learn if any suspect was held for the robbery, SKNVibes was told by an officer that they were not permitted to divulge any information and only the Force Public Relations Officer is authorised to do so.

The Police PRO, Sergeant Stephen Hector, was contacted and he indicated that he was on vacation.

Hector however said that he had heard of the incident on the road and would try to get the relevant information for dissemination to the press.
