    Shooting victim dies in hospital

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHAMARI WILLIAMS, who was reportedly shot in the head last night, died this morning at the Joseph N France General Hospital.

    Reports reaching SKNVibes and confirmed by the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, state that the 24-year-old New Road resident died at approximately 11:05 a.m. today.

    According to a Police release, at about 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, Williams, while driving along George Street, Newtown in the vicinity of Hope Chapel, “some person(s) opened fire on the vehicle” resulting in him being “shot on the right side of his head”. Consequently, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another that was parked.

     

    He was rushed to the JNF Hospital and said to have been in critical condition.

    Williams is the second person to have died following three separate shooting incidents that occurred in less than two hours on Saturday, July 5 in St. Kitts.

     

    At about 9:30 p.m., 18-year-old Darnel Webster was walking along Sandown Road in the vicinity of the Basseterre Fire Station when he was attacked and shot multiple times about his body.   

    An Emergency Medical Services unit was dispatched to the scene and transported the Sandown Road resident to the JNF Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries last night.

     

    The other shooting victim is 19-year-old Mahari Peets of John England Village, St. Peters.

     

    Police informed that at approximately 10:55 p.m. while Peets was walking towards his home, he was “fired upon by an unknown assailant” and “sustained a gunshot injury to his foot”.   ~~Adz:Left~~

     

    He too was taken to the same hospital, where he is a patient.

     

    The two deaths, Darnel Webster and Shamari Williams, have taken the number of reported homicides committed in the Federation for 2008 to 13; two on Nevis and 11 on St. Kitts.

     

    The Police are appealing to anyone with information about these crimes to call the Criminal Investigation Department at telephone numbers 465-2241 extension 220, 230 or 236, or the crime hotline 707.
