Machete-wielding man was wanted by police

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A new twist has developed in yesterday’s (Apr. 27) shooting incident involving Marvin Boon and a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

According to eyewitness account, Boon was shot in one of his legs after he was seen walking east along the Island Main Road in the vicinity of the Joseph N France General Hospital with a machete in his hand.

One eyewitness told this media house that a police vehicle was at the same time travelling in the opposite direction and it made a U-turn upon seeing Boon with the machete.

Two officers disembarked the vehicle and ordered Boon to put down the machete, but he instead started running while turning around and wielding it in the process with the police in hot pursuit.

Another eyewitness suggested that it appeared as though Boon had no intention of hurting the officers but was swinging the machete as a means of fending them off.
SKNVibes understands that two shots were fired by one of the officers while the encounter was still on the Island Main Road, at which point Boon was uninjured.

Boon reportedly ran into the Carib Breweries compound and was pursued by a male police officer who fired a single shot at him and then another as the chase progressed further on the premises.

Reportedly, the second shot him in one of his legs, but he continued to run and jumped over the perimeter fence of Carib Breweries and attempted to escape west along the Island Main Road.

He however only managed to run for a few metres before sitting on the ground and the officers took the machete from him.

This morning, however, a press release from the Police Press and Communications Officer, Sergeant Stephen Hector, stated that Boon of Old Road was wanted by the police for indecent assault and he was arrested on a warrant in the first instance.

“Marvin Boon was approached by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in the Buckley’s Estate area; he chose to assault the officers with a machete.

“The police defended themselves against the armed attack by disabling the assailant with a gunshot to his leg. Though disarmed, the assailant continued his attack and bit into the leg of a police officer. Both men had to seek medical attention at the JNF Hospital for their injuries,” the release stated.

Someone close to the shot man told SKNVibes that Boon, who is popularly known as ‘Jelly Man’, was plying his trade and not only was he in possession of a machete but also a bag with coconuts.
