BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 30th, 2012 (CUOPM) – Brazil’s Minister of External Relations, His Excellency Ambassador Antonio Patriota is to visit St. Kitts and Nevis later this week.
Brazil’s Resident Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Miguel Magalhaes told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM) that the Brazilian Foreign Minister will arrive at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport aboard a Brazilian Air Force jet on Thursday May 3rd.
Ambassador Magalhaes said Minister Patriota has scheduled meetings with the St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas at Government Headquarters, and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Sam Condor, at the Brazilian Embassy.
Two weeks ago, the Brazilian diplomat informed Prime Minister Douglas that agreement has been reached on a Partial Scope Agreement between St. Kitts and Nevis and Brazil and that a Brazilian official will be arriving shortly in Basseterre to sign off on the negotiations.
“That will be a most historic day for the Kittitian and Nevisian manufacturing sector which will now have the scope to access the huge Brazilian market with our electronic products manufactured here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
He said St. Kitts and Nevis expects that an expansion in this enclave manufacturing sector, will provide greater employment opportunities for young men and women in St. Kitts and Nevis who have done so well over the years with their high quality products that have penetrated markets around the world and projected St. Kitts and Nevis as the largest exporter from the Eastern Caribbean to the United States.
Prime Minister Douglas said it will also lead to the diversification of the international exports strategy for St. Kitts and Nevis, enhance the country profile in international trade and provide greater profitability and financial security for manufacturing facilities operating in the Federation.
