Basseterre, St. Kitts May 3rd, 2012, (PAM Public Relations):- Political Leader of the People's Action Movement, Mr Lindsay Grant appearing on this past Thursday night's edition of The “People's Forum” declared that “ A PAM administration will remove the fuel surcharge, thereby reducing the cost of electricity, bringing real and immediate relief to consumers.”
While the cost of electricity continues to cause pain and hardship for the people of the country, Prime Minister Douglas again pulls out yet another in a series of annual Labour Day gimmicks. Dr Douglas while addressing a public meeting in his constituency left his audience in shock, amazement, and deeply concerned about the state of his mental health, when he declared that he finally had an opportunity to see an electricity bill and “wanted to cry”, and went on to invite citizens to march on Labour Day to bring down the cost of electricity that he himself as prime minister and minister of finance was responsible for raising to the current back breaking level.
Mr Grant was addressing the achievements as well as the continued struggles for workers as they get ready to celebrate another workers day on Monday May 7, 2012. The Leader of the People's Action Movement assured listeners that his party will continue to develop policies and positions that put people first.
He reminded them that the People's Action Movement has always delivered for workers, and went on to list a number of legislative achievements of a PAM administration including; the removal of regulation requiring unmarried pregnant women to resign from public service, 26 weeks of maternity benefits, the protection of employment act, and the introduction of severance pay. All of which have positively impacted the lives of workers.
The People's Action Movement will host it's annual tribute to workers, with the traditional May Day weekend of activities at party headquarters, beginning with a calypso show dubbed “Calypso Bacchanal” on Friday May 4, and wrapping up on Monday May 7 with the May Day “Fun Day”, where workers and there families will gather to celebrate their achievements, and continued struggle.
