    Police/Court Round Up

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EARLIER this week, the doors of the Federation’s Magistrate Courts opened and saw the disposal of a number of cases, some of which resulted in the imposition of fines.

     

    At the District ‘B’ Magistrate’s Court, a 17-year-old was convicted of the offence of “wounding” and was sentenced to serve six months at Her Majesty’s Prison. The offence was committed on May 11, 2008.

     

    A Godwin Ghaut juvenile, who appeared before the same court on a charge of “being armed with an offensive weapon”, was convicted, placed on a six-month-bond and ordered to observe a curfew from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. He is also to “have regular visits with a probation officer”.

     

    Having been convicted of driving without insurance, Michelle Warner of Cleverly Hill, Sandy Point was convicted and ordered to pay a $450 fine. The sum is to be paid within a two-month period or she will be required to serve one week in prison. As further punishment, her license was suspended for a one-month period.

     

    Clinton Thomas of Half Way Tree escaped jail time but was fined after he was convicted of a “being armed with an offensive weapon” offence.  He was reprimanded.

     

    Mona Farrel of Molyneaux was placed on bond to keep the peace, be of good behaviour and stay a minimum of 100 feet from the virtual complainant [Lawrence] for a six-month-bond, having been convicted of a June 2, 2008 offence of “making use of indecent language”.

     

    A $1 700 fine was handed down to St. Paul’s Villager Reginald Richards after he was convicted of driving under the influence of liquor and driving without due care and attention. He was fined $1 000 on the first charge and $700 on the second. The sums are to be paid within three months or a custodial sentence would be imposed.

     

    Having been convicted of driving without due care and attention at the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court in Nevis, Glen Pemberton of Main Street, Charlestown, Nevis was ordered to pay a $2 000 fine within the next six months. Failure to pay the sum in the prescribed time period would result in him having to serve one month imprisonment. The offence was committed on January 10, 2008.

     

    Santo Childeron of Bath Village has to up with $500 in the next two months as punishment after he was convicted of a February 24, 2008 offence of “driving without a valid license”. The alternative punishment is one month imprisonment at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Tyrell Walters of Maynard’s Ground, who was convicted of throwing missiles, was cautioned and David Grant of Belmont, Nevis was also convicted and cautioned for driving without due care and attention.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    AN Upper Fiennes Avenue resident, Terrence Wharton, will soon have his day in court as he was on Tuesday arrested and charged with one count of “being found in enclosed premises”; an offence which the Police claim was committed on July 4, 2008.
