ST. GEORGE, Grenada, May 10th, 2012  --  Leaders of the Non Governmental Organisations (NOGs) and Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas this morning discussed a wide range of issues affecting the country and its development.

The Prime Minister welcomed the leaders in the non state sector to the meeting and updated them on his government’s plans for improving the economy as the foundation for growth has been laid.

He noted that the meeting was a part of a commitment by the government to maintain contact and dialogue with the NGO community as part of the governance process outlined by the government.

“I am really pleased that we are here again to discuss matters and issues that are crucial to our national development. I maintain that you are an important part of the democratic process. You must continue to monitor and keep us on track with the commitments we made to the Grenadian people,” the Prime Minister said.

Members of the group expressed their appreciation to the Prime Minister for the meeting and expressed concern about the current political events in Grenada, especially its impact on the stability and development of the country.

They also offered recommendations for the future development of Grenada.

“You have said, and we agree, that as a nation we need to identify and develop the resources we have for the benefit of all Grenadians. We have a lot of potential in various sectors that can transform our country,” one member of the NGO leadership said, noting that food production was one such area.

There was also agreement on the need for government to protect the heritage of Grenadians by ensuring that the necessary due diligence is undertaken in view of the need for foreign investment.

The meeting ended with a commitment to continue the engagement in the interest of Grenada.
