Gun silencer, illegal drugs found in Police weekend operations

~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of various communities in the Federation were kept on their toes last weekend as officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force were out in their numbers conducting operations, including stops and searches.
The operations began on Thursday with the Police conducting “routine traffic checks and vehicle inspections around Basseterre”, which resulted in 18 vehicles found to have dark tinted windows or windscreens.
The drivers of the vehicles were asked to remove the tint or face prosecution. Some 20 tickets were issued to persons who were found to be in breach of the traffic laws, including driving with defective number plates and driving an unlicensed vehicle.
The exercises continued on Friday with persons, vehicles and abandoned houses in the Newtown, Conaree, Mc Knight, The Village and Monkey Hill areas being stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition.
The Police reported that resultant of these exercises, College Street resident Lewis Powell was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis, and Kirk Reid of Basseterre was arrested and charged with the offence of “obstruction”.
Shawn Powell and Vere Henry of Craddock Road, Nevis were arrested following a similar operation that took place in Nevis on Saturday. Like their colleagues in St. Kitts, Police in Nevis were stopping persons and vehicle and searching them for drugs, arms and ammunition and both men were found to be carrying a quantity of cannabis. They were subsequently arrested and charged with “possession of cannabis”.
Further searches conducted on Sunday in the Basseterre area yielded quantities of marijuana and a silencer. As indicated in a Police report, one quantity of marijuana was discovered on the premises of Neverson Street East resident Sherlon Cannonier. He was arrested and charged with drug possession. The other quantity of drugs and the silencer were found “on an unoccupied premises” and to date, no one has been held accountable.
