    ~~Adz:Left~~ARRESTS

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SEVEN persons were charged over the weekend for various offences and a total of EC$3 700 was handed in fines for violating traffic laws.

     

    Three of the seven persons arrested were charged with the offence of “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”.  Keith Rhymer of Basseterre was charged on Friday, July 11, 2008 and Javon Daniel of Cotton Ground, Nevis was charged on the same day but an additional charge of “failing to give his name when requested to do so by an officer” was preferred against him.  Mikhail Manners of Nevis was arrested on Saturday, July 12, 2008 and charged with “carrying abroad an offensive weapon “.

     

    Saddlers Villagers Vincent Huggins and Thomas Abraham were charged with a Friday, July 11, 2008 offence of “possession of cannabis”.

     

    For the offence of “house breaking and larceny”, Sharmarc Howe of St. Johnson Village was arrested and charged.

     

    Bath Plains, Nevis resident Satyavan Gaylall was arrested and charged on Saturday with the offence of “driving without insurance” and “driving without a valid and unexpired license”.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    Fines totalling some $3 700 were recently handed down to persons found guilty of traffic offences.

     

    Irishtown resident Orlando Herbert was convicted of “driving without a valid driver’s license”, “driving without insurance” and “driving an unregistered vehicle” and was fined $300, $800 and $200, respectively.  If he fails to pay the sums within the prescribed period of time, a custodial sentence would be imposed. As part of his punishment, he was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s license for one year.

     

    Roy Nias and Wilfred Welsh, both of Challengers, were each ordered to pay a $600 fine as punishment for the “careless driving” offences of which they were convicted.

     

    Conaree Villager Donnel Browne was convicted of “careless driving” and fined $700, which is to be paid within one month or a one-month custodial sentence would be imposed.

     

    College Housing resident Norris Martin was ordered to pay $500 forthwith, as punishment for a “careless driving” offence of which he was guilty.
