BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KIM COLLINS continues to blaze a trail as he proceeds steadily to the London Olympics 2012 decreasing his times and making world champions like Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin fight hard to barely edge him out.
At the ninth IAAF World Challenge meet of 2012 held on Sunday May 27, in a festive atmosphere of 30 000 sport enthusiasts, Justin Gatlin of the USA, a former world champion, was able to beat Kim Collins by a mere five hundredths of a second – 10.12 vs 10.17 secs.
Just two days previously, at the Golden Spike Meet in OSTRAVA, Czech Republic. Collins led Usain Bolt for 70 metres of the 100m race but Bolt pulled ahead in the final stretch to beat him by 0.15 secs – 10.04 t0 10.19
The performance of Collins, who is over a decade older than his counterparts, is being regarded as nothing short of outstanding. He is being described as the “evergreen veteran” and the “experienced star and world champion”.
At the last meet, Gatlin had to admit, "The competition was very tough, an ideal preparation for the Olympics."
And as the name of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to become a household word on the world stage, thanks to Kim Collins, his nation could not be more proud.
We send congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Kim!!
