The Inland Revenue Department to launch “get closer to you” Property Tax Initiative

Press Release (Inland Revenue Dpt)

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, MAY 31st,  2012 (Inland Revenue Department) – As part of its ongoing campaign of providing better information and improving the quality of services to the general public, the Inland Revenue Department will officially kickoff its Property Tax “Get Closer to You” Campaign on Saturday 02nd June, 2012.

This project will see the Department move away from its traditional means of interacting with the general public where persons were required to visit the tax office in Basseterre. Under this new campaign, taxpayers will have the opportunity to come out and dialogue with the Inland Revenue Department at our mobile taxpayer service centers.

At these Mobile Tax Information Centers (MTIC), the general public will be encouraged to come out and interact with the staff of the IRD on property tax matters or enquire on any tax issue under the Departments purview. The public is asked to take note that enquiries with respect to property taxes can settled at the mobile tax locations.

The first event will be located outside the Pogson Medical Center in Sandy Point this coming Saturday June 02nd, 2012. The second will take place on June 09th, 2012 in Old Road Village, while the third stop will take us to Cayon (across from Maynard’s Park) on June 16th, 2012.

The final event of the series will be held on June 23rd , 2012 at Fort Street, Basseterre. The mobile tax centers will open on the scheduled days from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm for the first three events. For the grand finale in Basseterre, we will close at 4:00 pm.

The general public should note that payment of Property Taxes in St. Kitts and Nevis becomes due and payable on or before June 30th, 2012, after which penalties and interest will accrue at 1 percent per month or 12 percent per annum. Please contact the Inland Revenue Department on St. Kitts or on Nevis if you have not received a Property Tax Notice for this or any tax period to bring your account up to date and avoid unnecessary penalties and interest.

The Inland Revenue Department is charged with administering the tax laws of the Federation in an efficient and equitable manner, to promote voluntary compliance to maximize Revenue for the development of the Federation at the least cost to the public and in a manner that warrants the highest degree of Public confidence in our integrity, efficiency and fairness.

The Inland Revenue Department is the prime revenue collections agency for the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis within the Ministry of Finance, located at Bay Road, Basseterre, and Charlestown, St. Kitts and Nevis, West Indies.
