BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KIRK ‘SCOTTY’ HOBSON, the person of interest for whom a wanted bulletin was issued earlier today (June 2), turned himself in to the police.

Speaking with this media house, Police Press and Public Information Officer (PIO) Sergeant Stephen Hector said that at approximately 5:45 this afternoon “Hobson, accompanied by an immediate female family member, had turned himself in at the Basseterre Police Station”.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr. C G Walwyn, whilst in flight on his return to the Federation, issued a press release to the public indicating that a manhunt would commence at 6:00 p.m.

“Immediately upon his arrival strategic meetings were held, and at approximately 5:45 p.m. Kirk Hobson presented himself to the Basseterre Police Station. The Commissioner of Police is pleased with the support of the media given to the organisation and in particular the improved media efforts made by SKNvibes. He is however thankful to the immediate family and to the community at large for their support and efforts made in the investigation thus far.

“The Commissioner has notified the relevant law enforcement agencies of Kirk Hobson's arrival at the Basseterre Police Station, but however wishes to notify the public that a high level of vigilance would be maintained as investigations into the two most recent shootings continue.

“We urge the public therefore to continue to apply the concepts of community policing and neighbourhood watch as we continue to execute our mandate of ensuring that the security, safety, peace and tranquility of the Federation is maintained,” Hector said.

An earlier article, headlined “One arrested, police hunt another in Village shooting”, had indicated that the police had issued a warning for Hobson to present himself to the authorities by 6:00 p.m. today or an extensive manhunt would have been launched.

Hobson, as stated by the PIO, was a person of interest in the shooting of Damien Weekes, Dion Hollomon and Vernal Chumney, who are reportedly in stable condition in the Surgical Ward at the Joseph N France General Hospital.

At about nine o’clock last night, the three men were wounded by two armed, masked men who fired a number of shots into a shop on Union Street in Haynes Smith Village, which is owned by Damien Weekes.
