    POLICE/COURT ROUND UP

    OPERATIONS

     

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A number of persons were taken into police custody and charged following the execution of search warrants by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

     

    A Police press release informs that the operations were conducted between Wednesday and Friday of last week.

     

    “On Wednesday 16th July 2008, Police on Nevis conducted routine stop and search operations” during which “Desean Phillip of Brown Hill was stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition” and found to be in possession of “15 transparent bags containing marijuana…Phillip along with the drugs were taken into police custody and he was later charged with the offences of possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.”

     

    During another operation, police executed a search warrant on the premises of Dwayne Matthew and Trevis Stapleton of West Bury and found “a number of marijuana plants” which they seized.  The men, according to the press release, were arrested and charged with “possession of cannabis”.

     

    Julian James of Bath Village and Ashley Parris of Bath Village were taken into police custody after Parris’ premises was searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. While nothing was found on the premises “to satisfy the warrant…one adapted firearm, one round of .38 ammunition, one black mask and two black gloves, a large quantity of marijuana and two hooded jackets were found in some bushes close to the property”.     ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    The items as well as the men were taken into custody and the police have indicated that they are making investigations into the find.

     

    Deon Thompson and Keisharn Gilbert were arrested and charged with “possession of crack cocaine and marijuana and possession of crack cocaine and marijuana with intent to supply”, which resulted from the execution of search warrants.

     

    “Search Warrants were also executed on the premises of Leon Thompson and Deon Thompson respectively, of Stoney Grove. Nothing was found on the premises of Leon, but a large quantity of marijuana and crack cocaine as well as one Crossman 760 pellet BB Gun was found on the property of Deon and taken into police custody. Deon and Keisharn Gilbert were both arrested and charged…”

     

    ARRESTS

     

    The following persons were arrested and charged on Thursday of last week.

     

    Upper Market Street resident, Mervin Young was charged with a July 16, 2008 offence of making use of threatening language”.

     

    Newtown resident, Vernon Simon was charged with “unlawful possession of electronic equipment”.

     

    For the offences of “driving when not covered by insurance” and “driving without a valid and unexpired license”, Malone Avenue resident Deshea Prentice was arrested and charged.

     

    For “permitting another person to drive when not covered by insurance”, Kevroy Smith of Half Moon Bay was arrested and charged.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    A Cunningham Extension, Cayon resident was ordered to pay a $500 fine after he was convicted of a February 8, 2008 offence of “larceny”.

     

    Trevor Richardson appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Thursday and was ordered to pay the fine within two months or in default, serve a six-month custodial sentence.

     

    Bird Rock residents Veronica Weekes and Brandy Boyner were convicted of “driving without due care and attention” and “careless driving” respectively. Weekes was cautioned and Boyner reprimanded.
