BRADES, Montserrat (June 04th, 2012) – Fly Montserrat made is inaugural flight between Nevis and Montserrat this morning Monday, June 04, 2012 and the tourism board hopes it will fuel an increase in inter-island travel.

Acting Director of the Montserrat Tourist Board Mrs. Elveta Chalmers said they stand behind this new initiative by Captain Nigel and Shelley Harris of Fly Montserrat. “We are fully behind you and will support in any way we can,” she said at a press conference.

Travelling to Montserrat on the inaugural flight were Alistair Yearwood, Tourism Advisor to the Premier of Nevis; Christine Williams of Kantours Travel Agency; Tyrone O’Flaherty Permanent Secretary Ministry of Tourism; and Kerry Williams of Nevis Government Information.

Captain Harris said he is grateful for the support he received from the tourism board and extended thanks to the Premier of Nevis who was on hand for the morning landing ceremony there.

The daily flights will spend a few minutes on the ground in Antigua before continuing on to Montserrat. The airline CEO said this will facilitate the many Nevisians onward connections to flights. At present, there are only flights to Antigua from Nevis twice a week.

Permanent Secretary O’Flaherty said the day was a bit overwhelming and he was left speechless at times while viewing the island and the results of the volcanic eruptions. “You hear about it but to see it is a different story. There is a lot of interest by Nevisians to visit Montserrat and in the past this has been a challenge.

The addition of the Carib Queen ferry has helped a lot but for others who prefer to fly, this new service is welcomed.Fly Montserrat is providing linkages to our main gateway in Antigua. Nevis will do our part to promote the service.

Hoteliers on Nevis are being encouraged to create attractive packages to entice Montserratian travellers to come for a visit.

Flights can be booked online at www.flymontserrat.com.
