S L Horsfords Pace Setters emerged champions at 2012 National Invitational & Club Championships!!

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts,  June 5th, 2012   --   The SL Horsfords Pace Setters Track Club are the 2012 National Invitational & Club Championship winners! On an evening filled with surprises, the SL Horsfords Pace Setters Track Club narrowly defeated the Elite Performance Track Club as they both were tied with gold medals.

     

    The winner was therefore determined by the team who won the most silvers out of the two; resulting in them becoming the Champions. See results table below:

    There were three Olympic A qualifying performances namely Antoine Adams in the men 100m /200m and  Tameka Williams in the women 200m, both of whom represented the Elite Performance Track Club. Antoine’s sprint double victory earned him bragging rights as the 2nd fastest individual to exist from St. Kitts and Nevis in both events. Tameka’s 200m performance of 22.45 seconds is a new National Record and is currently the 6th fastest time in the world for 2012! 

    Other notably performances include:
    Virgil Hodge, winner Women 100m 11.39 seconds
    Jason Rogers, 2nd Men 100m 10.26 seconds – NACAC Under 23 Qualifier
    Lestrod Rolland, 2nd Men 200m 20.67seconds – NACAC Under 23 Qualifier 
    Nathaniel Huggins, winner Men Long Jump 6.87m – CAC Junior Under 18 Qualifier 
    Adrian Williams, winner Men Javelin 60.88m– New National Record, CAC Junior Under 18 Qualifier 
    Kajon Parris, 3rd place Men 800m – CAC Junior Qualifier 1min59.27seconds – CAC Junior Qualifier  
    Clairvon Kelly, Nathaniel Huggins & Toriano Samuel – 1st, 2nd and 3rd Men High Jump 1.90m –CAC Junior Qualifier
    Stavia Lewis, winner Women Discuss 36.33m – CAC Junior Qualifier 

    Other highlights include the Digicel Dash for cash promotion where two (2) spectators won cash having been selected to compete in the 50m. The lucky winners each walked away with $200 cash. The first 100 Digicel customers arriving at the stadium received free credit! A brief performance by Sugar Mas’ Soca Monarch Groovy winner Shakki Stat Fire had the crowd moving during one of the intermission. 

    Veteran Coach and Lecturer, Craig Connor, was honored by both the Coaching Association and the SKNAAA Executive for decades of service to athletics. Craig was also a recipient of the IAAF Centennial Award, in acknowledgement of outstanding service in the 100 years of the IAAF’s existence. 

    The evening climaxed with the completion of the 4X100m relays where men and women of the development squad and clubs competed. 

    The Silver Jubilee Stadium will come alive once again on Sunday 10th June 2012, when team St. Kitts and Nevis competes again the Member Federations of the OECS in the 2nd Biennial OECS Invitational. All are invited to support this event this coming Sunday. Admission, Kim Collins Pavilion $20, Grounds – Adults $10 & Children $5.
